Poetry Workshops: Writing, Perfecting and Performing
A poetry series of masterclasses targeting young talents in London
Martha Bryant, 19, young person organised a series of poetry masterclasses early in lockdown to help young people improve their poetry skills. Martha and her team were trying to educate young people on poetry techniques by giving young people productive tasks to do during lockdown. They also focused on giving young people confidence to be able to perform and create spoken word pieces they are proud of.
The team used the help of the poet Sophie Thakur who hosted the workshops and was able to teach young people about the best way to create an emotive, passionate spoken word piece that can move any audience. Sophie also gave young people useful tips and was able to inspire them within the industry so they can aspire to be successful too.
12 young people attended the session and produced spoken word pieces by the end of the workshops that they were able to perform confidently. The participants were so happy and gained knowledge and skills on the best techniques within poetry.
Martha said: ‘ this project increased my confidence, developed my organisational skills and improved my writing quality and technical skills’’.
