A movie streaming project to restore a sense of unity and normality in the community
Restoring a sense of unity and normality in the community due to Covid-19 causing a sense of isolation within people, especially people who don’t live with a large family. That is why a group of young people decided to do six movie streaming of different topic.
The team selected different outdoor spaces in Tower Hamlets to bring the community together to enjoy watching films.
6 people attended each streaming and their feedback was very nice. People said they felt better and less isolated being in such an environment with their community and seeing people they hadn’t seen since before lockdown.
48 members of the local community benefited from this activity. Mohammed Mazhar Alam, the project leaders, said: ‘I feel like the elderly members of the community benefited a lot, as many were spending lockdown alone; it was nice for them to be in an environment with other people.’
Peabody team asked Mohammad about the difference this experience has made to his life, he said: ‘this project improved my leadership skills and helped me become better at working with people. These are transferable skills, which I can carry with me through all walks of life.’
