Coders of Colour
A programme of hands-on workshops to expose young under-represented people of colour to the tech industry
Coders of Colour aims to: “Empower and enable young underrepresented people of colour to pursue a career in tech by providing a safe space for them to learn, explore and grow”. Our principal aim is to give underrepresented teens of colour the capability to choose if they want to enter the technology industry.
We ran 20 zoom sessions online throughout the summer of 2020 with 170 young people attending. These ranged from programming tutorials, mini coding projects, workshops where young people built chat bots, to talks about certain jobs in the industry and talks with students about what it’s like to study computer science at a very high level.
During the sessions, young people connected with each other, learnt new skills and had the opportunity to apply them, plus they gained confidence around tech and getting into the industry.
