Creative clay art classes
Olamide wanted to give children on his estate that chance to try a different kind of creativity.
Olamide wanted to show young people that creativity and art is wider than acting or singing and that art and design is a huge area with potential careers. Having studied art and animation himself, he decided to offer a workshop for younger children on his estate that taught them how to design and build models, set and characters in clay, as well as animate them for stop motion or displays.
Held in a community centre on the Pembury estate in May half-term, it was so popular that centre staff asked him back to run a second event. Olamide was then supported to run a third workshop on another estate as part of the Peabody summer programme.
Olamide is now being paid to deliver art workshops every Monday as a freelance arts professional at Pembury Centre and has just won a £3,000 grant to extend his creative business and community work.
