Fun day for families with children with disabilities
A day of fun and games for disabled children as well as information and support for their parents.
Skye wanted to offer a day of fun and games for disabled children as well as information and support for their parents. She organised for local support groups to attend with information for parents, created a sensory room in the community centre and got a team of volunteers together from her youth club.
The team led art, cooking, sports and bread-making activities for the children, as well as providing a free lunch for children and their families.
77 children enjoyed the day, with children with and without additional needs mixing and playing together. Parents were able to receive support and some were attending their local community centre for the first time.
Britannia Village runs a very successful summer programme for children – Skye managed to attract as many children to her one day event as the centre normally does for a week in summer.
