Gift to Shelter
Students donating to their local homeless shelter
The students of Pimlico Academy wanted to help homeless people in the Pimlico and Vauxhall community by providing them with warm accessories and non-perishable food through the local homeless shelter. The warm accessories were sourced through the Young Leaders funding, peers at their school and donations.
The Young Leaders wanted the homeless people to know/feel that local people care about them. Hopefully this would help them feel like they belong in the community. Most importantly, to inspire other students to get involved in charity work.
“It was mind changing to learn how other people live. I now appreciate everything I’ve got.”(Maja, 13)
The Young Leaders plan on making badges to sell at school and raise further funds to support the local homeless shelter. Additionally, they want to continue to raise awareness of homelessness as an issue.
