Keep Music in Mind
Vanessa wanted to run a creative music event that also tackled mental health issues for young people.
Vanessa felt that there is a lack of mental health education and practical solutions for young people – so she wanted to run an event to tackle this through:
- a holistic mental health education on music
- an understanding of the effects of stress on the mind and body
- a safe space to discuss sensitive issues
- awareness of available services to access support
This included presentations, personal stories, panel discussions and practical tips – as well as showcasing young up and coming artists. The team also filmed the sessions and took vox pops so the information could be shared wider.
Music in Mind was a launch music event for Vanessa’s social enterprise, Inside Out, which looks at ways to tackle mental health provision for young people. Vanessa has since appeared on podcasts and the BBC One Show to discuss Inside Out, raising awareness of mental health issues and how they affect BAME young people.
