Peabody Poetry Night
Poetry workshop exploring identity and belonging in the UK.
A 6 week workshop engaging with young people from all cultural, ethnic and social backgrounds who want to write poetry. Whether they’re a complete beginner or have done it before, it doesn’t matter. So long as they’re keen to explore and express what living in this country means to them.
This project saw 5 young people aged 11 – 18 showcase their poetry at 189 Contemporary Arts & Learning. The project created a space for young minds to absorb new information and through poetry find ways to express themselves, freely exploring what it means to ‘belong’. The sessions built a sense of trust in the group through sharing work and giving each other feedback. The young people were able to take part in group activities, gain confidence in writing and performing and gain an OCN accreditation whilst having fun!
