Tachbrook Youth Residential
Young Leaders organise a weekend residential trip to Hindlead Warren for a group of young people from their community.
About the Project
A group of 4 young people from the Tachbrook Estate community in Pimlico ranging in age from 15 to 22 took 9 young people from their community on a weekend residential to Hindlead Warren for two days of teamwork and confidence building activities. The group part funded the trip through a walkathon and successfully joined the London Youth to receive further discounts on the cost of the trip.
The leadership team led by Danielle Frost planned all aspects of the project from organising parental consent and health & safety requirements to transporting the group to and from the venue and activity supervision during the residential.
The residential trip was a great success in bonding the group of young people together and allowing them to experience activities they had never done before. For one of the group members this trip was the first time they had been away from home overnight – a challenge they handled without incident. The opportunities and activities that the group took part in over the weekend saw a significant development in confidence by all young people in attendance with many stepping out of their comfort zone to achieve tasks and challenges.
All young people that took part in the residential will also gain a reflective learning qualification along with the Leadership qualifications being earned by the Leadership Team.
Through their involvement with the Young Leaders Programme the Tachbrook Leadership Team are in the process of formalising their Youth Club with the support of Peabody Young People Services. This Youth Club will run weekly sessions for all interested young people on and around the Tachbrook Estate and will provide a fun and safe environment for young people to develop and grow.
